Liposuction

What is Liposuction Procedure?

Liposuction is the process of surgically removing excess fat deposits in certain areas of the body. This procedure is used to correct the body contour and obtain a more aesthetic appearance.

Liposuction targets fat deposits that cannot be removed with diet and exercise and is generally applied to areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, chin and back.

How is Liposuction Done?

  • Consultation and Planning: During the meeting with the doctor, the patient’s expectations and whether he is a suitable candidate are evaluated. It is determined which areas will be treated.

  • Anesthesia: The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia. Which anesthesia method will be used depends on the scope of the procedure and the patient’s preferences.

  • Opening the Incisions: Small incisions are made. These incisions are the points where the cannula (thin tube) will be inserted.

  • Injection of Tumescent Fluid: Tumescent fluid is injected into the fatty area. This fluid swells and hardens fat cells, while also constricting blood vessels, reducing blood loss.

  • Fat Suction Process: The cannula is inserted through the incisions and the fat cells are sucked out with vacuum. The technique used varies depending on the doctor’s preference and the targeted area.

  • Closure and Healing: The incisions are closed and bandaged. After the procedure, the patient is dressed in special compression garments.

Healing Process

  • First Days: There may be slight pain, swelling and bruising after the procedure. These symptoms usually subside within a few weeks.

  • Compression Garments: It is recommended to wear compression garments for the first few weeks. These garments reduce swelling and help shape the body contour.

  • Return to Normal Activities: Patients can usually return to normal activities within a week, but intense physical activities should be avoided for several weeks.

  • Visible Results: Final results are usually fully visible within 3-6 months. During this period, the body adapts to its new contour and excess fluids are eliminated.

Suitable Candidates for Liposuction

  • Healthy Individuals: Individuals with good general health.

  • A Balanced Weight: People who are not overweight and have a stable weight.

  • Those with Realistic Expectations: Liposuction is a body shaping process, not a weight loss method.

Liposuction is an effective method to create a more aesthetic and balanced body contour by targeting stubborn fat accumulations in the body. It is important to follow the doctor’s recommendations before and after the procedure to achieve successful and satisfactory results. The best approach is to meet with a plastic surgeon to learn more about liposuction and evaluate whether it is right for you.

Here's Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction

Will I feel any pain during the treatment?
